July 15, 2020As we are all faced with a new cleaning regimen, Q3 and Q4 is the perfect time to upgrade or install new commercial flooring to trend with the times, not only in look-and-feel, but also to withstand consistent cleanings.
One of the most important elements of a commercial space is the flooring. Commercial flooring needs to be comfortable, nicely designed, non-slip, and have ability to hold up in high traffic areas. Having a floor that is easy to clean is essential, so how do you plan and select a flooring type that is easy to clean? Here are 5 key commercial flooring types that are easy to clean. Keep these in mind as you plan for your upcoming commercial flooring projects.
Vinyl – is one of the easiest flooring types to clean, being virtually a sheet of plastic that is stain resistant and waterproof. Depending on the application and product, vinyl is sometimes coated with an acrylic coating (often called wax) to provide a layer of protection. Healthcare environments often will wax a vinyl floor to make the floor easier to maintain. When a vinyl floor has wax on it, the wax gets the brunt of the traffic with scratches and scuffs. Periodic maintenance is required to maintain this type of surface.
Luxury Vinyl Tile – is incredibly easy to maintain because it is stain, scratch, and scuff resistant. Simple dusting, sweeping, and vacuuming will help keep dust and debris away. Most LVT products have a coating on them making them wax free. However, some applications and products still recommend waxing the surface for long-term appearance retention. Please note that once you wax a product, you will need to keep waxing the product to maintain this surface.
Rubber Flooring – is stain resistant, water resistant from spills on the surface, holds up under heavy loads, and is scratch and scuff resistant. It is an ideal choice for some commercial settings such as gyms, hospitals, and cafeterias. Please note to use caution when installing rubber flooring where the floor is on or below grade. Rubber can be very temperamental when it comes to moisture emissions in a concrete slab.
Tile – Porcelain tiles are an excellent choice for clean-ability. The biggest complaint we get with porcelain tile is the grout. Using large-format tiles helps to minimize the number of grout lines and offers overall easy cleaning and maintenance.
Carpet – is often the selected choice of customers for comfort and style. Carpet is also a good choice to provide a space with warmth and sound absorbency. While carpet can easily stain or mark due to liquids and spills, surface dirt can easily be removed by vacuuming. Professional cleaning and stain removal on a regular basis is highly recommended to maintain your carpet for a longer period of time.
